The Lois Hole Hospital for Women is the only hospital in Alberta dedicated to women’s health and wellness.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Lois Hole Hospital for Women has become a national leader in women’s health by funding innovative models of care, advanced research, and specialized programs and services.
From comprehensive, high-risk obstetrical and maternal care, to the surgical treatment of ovarian, cervical, and other gynecological cancers, the hospital offers specialized services for women under one roof, improving accessibility and quality care for all those who walk through its doors.

In collaboration with the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation, the hospital is home to the Dale Sheard Centre for Solutions in Women’s Health, facilitating research into women’s health and wellness.
The Lois Hole Hospital for Women is the only women’s hospital in Canada with a dedicated Da Vinci Robot, which has revolutionized the way life-changing surgeries are delivered for women with gynecological cancers by making surgery more precise and less invasive. The hospital is also home to the Allard Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Clinic, which conducts research and provides care for women with high-risk cancers—a first of its kind in Alberta. The hospital is also home to a new system called the OBIX Perinatal Interface System which provides digital fetal heart rate monitoring and unprecedented access to obstetric specialists at the Lois Hole Hospital. This software will be especially beneficial to expectant mothers living in communities outside Edmonton experiencing high-risk pregnancies, and improve collaboration for an expectant mother’s team of physicians.
As the late Lois Hole—Alberta’s 15th Lieutenant Governor and namesake of the Lois Hole Hospital—herself said, the hospital represents a “new source of hope, especially for women.”
The Lois Hole Hospital opened its doors in 2001 after a historic fundraising campaign.
As the late Lois Hole summarized in 2004 in her last public address, “Hundreds of Albertans worked very hard to get this project [the Lois Hole Hospital for Women] off the ground and they did so because they wanted to give women from all across western Canada a place where they will receive the very best care, second to none, anywhere."
