Healthy Home 2012 is a very special fundraiser that brings together home builder Perry Homes, the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and community-minded trades and suppliers to build a beautiful new home in the Edmonton area. The home is then sold on the open market and proceeds raised are donated to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation.
“Over the years Perry Homes has been delighted to be part of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation’s fundraising efforts,” says Burke Perry, partner of Perry Homes. “The team here at Perry Homes is thrilled to be taking part once again in this wonderful project and we’re so proud of this home.”
This year the funds raised from Healthy Home are going towards a Simulation Centre for Health Learning inside the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. This will be the first training centre dedicated specifically to women’s health in Alberta. The Simulation Centre for Health Learning will be a state-of-the-art technical environment that will allow healthcare professionals to improve their readiness, skills and ability to provide exceptional patient care.
“We see so much potential in a new Simulation Centre at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women,” says Maureen McCaw, a director at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and Chair of the Simulation Centre for Health Learning Volunteer Committee. “The opportunities it will provide healthcare workers are vital and Healthy Home 2012 is going to help make this Centre a reality and continue to make the Lois Hole Hospital for Women a leader in women’s health.”
As the pre-eminent teaching centre for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alberta, the Lois Hole Hospital offers expanded opportunities for education and training. This new Centre will be well poised to meet the growing needs of this important department.
The Healthy Home project started in 2002 and every two years since then a home is built and sold with proceeds donated to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation.
“The Royal Alex Hospital Foundation has a long standing relationship with Perry Homes,” says Andrew Otway, President & CEO of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation. “Community initiatives like Healthy Home help to fund those extra special features that make the Lois Hole Hospital for Women a world-class facility.”
The two-storey, 2791 Sq. Ft. home is now completed and ready for purchase. This year environmental considerations were taken and the home is certified BuiltGreen.
“BuiltGreen means that the practices and products that went this home are resource-efficient and environmentally friendly,” says Burke Perry. “This is truly a healthy home for you and the environment and you can feel even better knowing that you’re making a real difference in the lives of women in Alberta.”
