Overview

Robbins Pavilion The Lois Hole Hospital for Women meets the growing demands for Women’s Health services in central and northern Alberta and across Canada's northwest. This new and modern facility provides expanded space for Women’s Health programs, access to the latest technology and supports bold new research to help women of all ages and in all stages in life.

Besides providing the best of care for patients, education and communication play key roles in the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. Innovative endeavours include a Health Resource Centre, filled with multimedia resources on health and wellness for patients and their families. Telehealth (a video-conferencing technology that enables physician consultation and diagnostic information to be transmitted over long distances) minimizes travel for doctors and health care workers and allows for an international network of information and knowledge. The Lois Hole Hospital for Women also serves as an important training ground for physicians, nursing students and other health professionals.

And this is just the beginning: unique enhancements at the hospital will help to ensure that it is among the very best in Canada. The Lois Hole Hospital for Women has been designed as a place of comfort that includes natural lighting, open spaces and attractive art to make patients and their families as welcome as possible. In keeping with Lois Hole's love of nature and recognizing the positive impact of a natural environment in the healing process, the Ted and Lois Hole Healing Garden was conceived. It is a very special place, a large roof-top garden filled with flowers, trees and tall grasses – a lush and tranquil space for patients, visitors and hospital staff to enjoy.

The Lois Hole Hospital for Women began receiving patients in May 2010, and it was the culmination of four years of community support that has built one of the finest hospitals in Canada.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital is affiliated with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta.
